Everyone harps on what an engine swap will do to the "value" of the
car. Personally, I'd pay a lot more money for a DeLorean with a good
engine - as would most of the "general public", I'd imagine, based on
the comments I hear from virtually every fellow gas station visitor I
chat with.

A DeLorean with a custom engine can well be worth a good deal more
money than a stock DeLorean. The key is finding the person who is
willing to pay that much. I sold a Fiero a few years back with a Buick
3.8 swap and it took some time to find the right buyer. Thing is, if
you've got a DeLorean anyway, you're already marketing to a limited
market. Throw in the swap and you could spend a year or more trying to
sell it.

Personally, if I were selling a custom DeLorean, I'd reach out to the
general public. Forget the DeLorean mags, etc. Advertise in the local
paper. Put the car on eBay. Take it to car shows with your "for sale"
sign, drive it around town, and show the thing off. Perhaps put it
with an established, higher end dealership on commission. You'd move
it - eventually. Assuming you did a professional job. If it's a hack,
forget it - the value of your car will tank.
