On the other hand, I paid $12,000 for an Insight that gets >70mpg. My
car has ~70k miles on it and the battery pack is warranted until 2011
or 150k miles. In fact, Honda just gave me a brand new pack because
mine was starting to fail.

I've no delusions about this car being good for the environment in any
way. I'm using less fuel but I'm also using a bunch of nickel and
other crap in those batteries. But I didn't buy it to be a green tree
hugger, I bought it because I'm saving $150 a month in fuel, money I
could be spending on something, anything, else.
