[DMCForum] was Bosch HR 6 DS...now Accel coil...



According to Accel, 8240 is actually part number 8140 and the 8245 is
actually 8145.  There is no '82xx' series.

8140 - voltage is 42k, 1.2 ohm resistance for points ignition.

8145 - voltage is 45k, 0.7 ohm resistance for HEI.

I'm not resisting changing out my ignition. I'm just in a "negative
cash flow position" right now. :)

The accel coil I was looking at is the exact same size as what I have
now. The part number was 8240. I tried to look it up at the Accel
website and the closest I could find was 8245, which says it puts out
45,000 volts. I still don't know what 8240 puts out.

As a twidget, I agree that high output coil, low resistance plugs
would make the hotter spark which begets more complete combustion,
which begets more power, blah blah blah.

IF the numbers I read about the spark plugs are correct, I feel safe
buying ordinary copper plugs instead of silver. I want to make sure I
get the proper heat range.

As far as the dizzy advance goes, when I disconnect that solenoid,
the timing advances way too far because it allows vacuum to advance
the timing that it's not supposed to have until the idle micro switch
opens, and it totally has no power.

I hate intermittant problems.
