Mustn't have made myself clear: I'm suggesting disconnecting vacuum to
diaphragm itself. Certainly can't run the thing on full engine vacuum
-- tried that already (are you reading Martin G?). With centrifugal
advance only you'll probably have lower advance curve, but at least
could eliminate bizarre rotor movements as source of problem.

I'm not comfortable with DeLo advance tied directly to manifold
vacuum. Ford did the same thing in late 70's, routing through all
sorts of valves and switches. Must be some performance or emission
advantage new from factory, but does not age well. Probably only way
I'm able to drive these cars home at all is because diaphragms no
longer work. As part of de-emissioning I move spark advance to
previous EGR activation port (advances with throttle plates). Replace
diaphragm too.
