Nick, I wouldn't worry too much about what effect a little steel wire
would have.the RHD's have all mild steel petrol tanks and they work OK.
(for a good few years anyway).

You can get stainless steel mig wire, this shouldn't rust and flake off
rusty bits to the fuel injection system.

Something about using stainless on a Delorean isn't there......like the
throttle covers.

Mig wire and a length of M10 studding works a treat (although it's an 
unsupported mod :-)

We christened it "spring-zilla" a while ago!
