[DML] Bogus Miles on Cars

I read with interest many auctions and other selling cars with "low" 
miles on them.  It made sense 10 years ago but now with our cars 
getting on in years the "low miles" claim feels odd.

I think most know that it is rather simple to disconnect the 
speedometer from the lamba counter underneath the steering wheel and 
that the angle drive was one of the most prone items to break.

As someone who documents every mile on the car (oil changes, repairs, 
fixes, upgradesetc...)  What's more valuable in terms of "value"?

I could very easily disconnect my speedometer and use my GPS to tell me 
my speed and keep my car with "low miles".....but that would be 
dishonest and illegal to boot!  I wonder how many of these "low mile" 
cars area really high mile cars with the owners either not fixing the 
agle drive until ready sell or simply re-attaching the speedometer.

The reason I ask this is that with 98K on my car the "value" of my car 
is technically less than a car with less miles. But with no way to tell 
except for worn pedals (that can be bought new and replaced) what is 
the more desirable car?

What car would you rather buy?....

A car with a 100% documented history for every mile with all repairs 
documented or a car with "low miles" and no documented history?

It's my belief there is no real way to tell is someone has shaved 20 or 
30K off their car by tampering with the speedometer.  This flaw in the 
design of the speedometer routing makes our cars suspect unless the 
owners have clear well documented proof for every mile.

When I eventually go to sell my car it will not be a low mile car....it 
will have well over 100K BUT it's new owner will have a full history 
not tainted by illegal speedometer tampering....
