Right. That's why I don't get what we're doing with hybrids, by and
large. OK, my hybrid is an exception. It's designed as a maximum
economy commuter and really does get outrageous mileage. The Prius
isn't bad. People whine about getting only 45mpg, but if you learn to
drive the fucking thing you can get 60 out of it. Hybrids simply
demand a different driving style, you absolutely must pay attention to
your fuel vs. electrical usage and drive accordingly. When you deplete
the batteries driving like a moron and the engine has to spool up and
recharge them, mileage suffers tremendously.

You guys have diesels that get 60mpg without having to play games with
how you drive and without the complications of a hybrid. Why on earth
nobody is importing those here and selling them to the public, I've no
idea. My bet is there are enough environmental & emissions laws on the
books to prevent it.
