RE: [DMCForum] Sirius radio..

You are using a wireless FM modulator, right?  Of course you will get FM
static, and you probably couldn't be using a worse setup.  The in-line
modulator on the antenna input is only slightly better.  You really should
be using it on a line in.

I have XM and can definitely hear the compression, even more so as you
mentioned when it's talk radio.  I would guess they advertise it as CD
quality because the average consumer wouldn't know the difference.

It also sounds like you have a single antenna.  Mine has two built into one.
The way I understand it is one is satellite and the other is for the
ground-based repeaters.  I have little problem picking anything up in a city
but when I get out in the middle of nowhere it drops every time I go under
an overpass, even at 80 MPH.  It took awhile to find out it was a problem
with my antenna and will be replacing it soon.

More in detail, I had to mount the antenna to my front windshield due to
lack of room on the back from a bed topper.  At first I thought the front
windshield had metal in it but it didn't.  After I called the glad
manufacturers I found out the glass is 1.5 mm thicker than the rear, and
this distance is affecting the antenna.

I ordered a little wedge shaped antenna mounted to the roof on the 350Z and
will put it on my truck.  When done it should look just like it came from
the factory, painted to match and everything.

I have the little radio that looks like a radar
detector, it has a  built in FM transmitter.  With the
thing in the little cubby hole under the radio (in my
Taurus), I still get "FM static".  I have tried a
number of frequencies, but little improvement.

If there is a problem with the Sirius signal, it goes
silent (because it is digital).  The static noise may
be a function of the crappy $30 radio I bought.

The files I am downloading from NNTP don't have that
static, but do have the other quality issues I
discussed.
