[DMCForum] Re: O/T Gas Prices in California reach $4.10 per gallon today

When you look as these kinds of *rewards* systems, yeah, it doesn't
pan out for you as all, as a viable way to actually save money. I
agree. Hell, in Las Vegas, every casino out there tries to get
everyone to sign up for players cards, to try and cash in rewards
points for the cash that they've lost, in an effort to try and get
people to spend more money. Same thing for kids who cash in skeeball
tickets when you think about it. You'd actually *save* more money by
spending the cash to outright buy the products that places give to you
as a "reward".

However, if the gas prices in a certain area are all the same, and
you're going to buy that soda or candybar anyways, then why not go
ahead and do it at the certain places that'll knock the price off the
other purchase? If you're looking for huge savings by spending more
cash to try and save in other places, then no, it's not senseble.

The point of my post wasn't just about the "rewards programs" that
people use. It's was to show you how some gas stations will try to
make a profit, when the one item that they primarily sell, is not
their biggest profit maker. Just like those ATM & Credit Card
transaction fees. Next time you're at the pump, check for a little
sticker with a warning about those fees. I've seen once place in town
that offered gasoline 15¢ cheaper a gallon than competing stores, but
was peanalizing people with a 75¢ charge for their transaction fees,
if you don't come inside, and pay cash. And when you're done paying at
the pump, the meter at the top doesn't reflect those special surcharges.

Keep you eye's peeled wherever you go.
