Almost every mechanic you talk to will have a story of near misses
related to spring compressors. Andy (our mechanic) saw a shock absorber
launched from the floor of a 15' workshop, make a hole in the roof and
never to be found again. it missed a guy's head by 1/2" on the way.

Treat them with RESPECT and advising someone to shake the crap out of a
compressed spring is just plain stupid. Trying to argue your way out of
it makes you look even more like an idiot.
