Point of order: I told Josh to "twist" the spring, not "shake" it. It
is merely stuck in the upper cradle (both of mine were too, and I
broke them free without too much effort). I sounds to me as though
he's using McPherson strut type compressors, which will work fine as
grab handles. Should one come off, he is going to fall away from the
vehicle. May hit his hand on something, or fall hard, but if he leaves
the shock absorber in place the spring isn't going to go anywhere or
hurt anything.

Exactly how much latent energy do you release when cutting a spring in
half?

And how in the world did your mechanic do so much damage with a simple
shock absorber? You can compress the things with your bare hands! Did
he cut one open or do something "like an idiot"?
