If you leave the shock in place, it will catch a wayward spring. 

How much force is needed to rip parts off General Motors vehicles anyway?

I'm sure you'll agree: mess with cars long enough and you'll
eventually ingest, wear, and be bonked/cut by every part or fluid in
the things.

What amazes me is DeLorean stainless. I've reached into sheet metal
doors all the way to my arm pit without a scratch. Look the wrong way
at a DeLorean door and it will gouge your eyes out.
