Good thought.  That could explain why both lock and unlock work from the 
driver's side--it could have the partially bad solenoid, which doesn't 
have to do any work when I'm toggling that switch, but which can't do the 
work when toggled electrically at the same time as the other one.

A PO has engraved "7-93" on the solenoids, so I assume they were replaced 
in 1993.  The LockZilla also has a 1993 date on it.  If both these parts 
were put in at the same time, I'd hope the solenoids wouldn't have died in 
the intervening years, but I suppose it could have happened anyway.

I've got a few scary exams approaching on Thursday and must resist the 
urge to spend time on the car between now and then, but after then, I'll 
have a chance to investigate this possibility.
