That's true. Not everyone would be able to make that split second decision, if they've never
thought about it before, and are suddenly confronted. And of those who could, how many
would still opt not to take another life?

People only think about themselves. I remember this study that was done back when I was
in high school. They asked a whole bunch of students, "Why should you not steal somthing
from someone, or a store?" The number one answer was, "Because you can get caught." No
one cared about the moral implications. Just themselves, and the punishments that they
*might* recieve, if they were caught.

The problem with most modern criminals of course, is not that people are any worse
today, than in years past. It's just that many of them have become fearless, because they
know that their punishment for commiting a crime, won't be that bad. They don't fear the
police, so they have no reason to abide by the law. Now, if more and more citizens begin
to defend themselves, then criminals will then start to think about the punishments that
they might recieve from fellow civilians, who themselves discard observance for the same
rules. A good instance is this case right here. I bet you now that while this episode will not
suddenly stop auto theft in this man's area, it will make criminals keep things like this is
the back of their mind. And that is the first babystep we've got to take, on the road to
putting the fear back into people who ignore the law. And while we remove the fears from
those victims who are too afraid to realize that shit can happen to them to, so they've
ignored it all this time.
