I have an 81 that had an antenna located in the front fender but now has a
grey plug there and the antenna in the back vent (I think this plug must
have been purchased as a kit along with the antenna because I have paper
work on it from the p.o.) it even had a paper cutout to tape on the vent as
a cutting guide. I would like to get rid of this old grey plug in the front
fender. has anyone tried to weld the hole up and regrain the ss?

Possibly, maybe the PO broke it and replaced it with a standard part
and didn't realize there was a difference from 81 to 83. I've also
seen some less than pretty 83's that have simply become brittle and
kind of crumpled or fell aart around that area.

But who knows, I'd probably order a new replacement to replace one
if mine ever became unsightly on my 83, but it hardly ever sees
light.

I might like to eventualy add one to my 81 because I like the look
of the rear mounted antenna, and my 81 has a windshield antenna. I
just pray it never breaks, if it does I will install the rear
antenna kit, I absolutley HATE the fender antenna. What a god awful
place to put one there.
