[DML] Re: Lotus engineering was WANTED: Angle Drive

I think it is reasonable to mentally masterbate about what AMC could
have done with JZD's design.

There was a tremendous amount of talent in Kenosha, basically lying
fallow under Renault's tutelage. Look what AMC designers accomplished
after their purchase by Chrysler (LH platform, Durango/Dakota, and
Neon were all done by AMC personnel). The original Hummer -- the one
suitable for use by the military -- was an AMC design as well.

Nash/AMC were the masters of unit body construction. All they ever
produced were monocoque designs. In the realm of steel, by the 1980's
their entire vehicles were galvanized *AND* Ziebarted, with plastic
wheel well liners as well! Very progressive. They might have jumped at
VARI (remember: VARI was a DeLorean innovation, not adopted by Lotus
until 1983).

Or, you can simply take the DeLorean as you find it, and leave mental
masterbation for Monday morning football discussions, CSPAN political
debates, and the every popular "how the South could have won the war."
