[DML] Unwound/Snapped Speedometer Cable

On the way home from class tonight I lost my speedometer. Cable
unwinding problems again. This time it was the lower speedo cable, not
the spindle cable, but same basic problem: cable is wound in the same
direction as predominant rotation (clockwise). Obviously this exerts
unwinding stress as it rotates. Eventually it starts to unwind. Didn't
turn into spaghetti this time -- only one or two loose strands -- but
they must have bound inside the sleeve because the lower cable snapped
in two.

Pics have been uploaded to #5939's photo album. Apologies for the
resolution -- I think I've discovered focal length limitations of my
el'cheapo digital camera. I cleaned the lubricant off the square angle
drive crimp, but that golden color on the remainder is my lubricant --
don't tell me I needed to lubricate my cable!

Angle drive and upper speedo cable are fine.

I have a 1985 F-150 with 214,000 miles on the original speedometer
cable, no maintenance whatsoever, and it still works perfectly.
Perhaps THAT is why I sometimes look sideways at my little silver car....
