no start problem

My 81 auto was stallling a little bit for a while, and it would take a
little while to turn over as well. It tended to stall just sitting in the
driveway running, and somtimes it would stall even while driving, it would
be like all of the sudden the car becomes really jerky just as I am driving
at a constant speed. I connected a jumper wire from the idle speed
microswitch to a ground, and the car seemed to run great, it did not stall
anymore. I got a new microswitch, but the car still stalls, right now it
will not turnover. Is it possible I messed up my idle speed regulator when I
ran the car for a time with the speed microswitch jumped? any ideas or
thoughts on the subjct would be appreciated.
