Alastair,

Sounds like your MOT setup in Ireland is similar to our HGV test
over here in the UK.

There are only a few places which will do them, and I am pretty sure
that they are all council run and they will fail you on anything.

You just line up and it is like a big assembly line of vehicles
going in one end and comming out the other.
It is very over the top just yesterday I had a Renault 7.5tonne
truck fail because the rear bumper was more than 10cm wider than the
rear tyres! and that was only 1 year old and the bumper was how it
came from Renault! a complete joke.

Thankfull the car MOT setup is not so bad in the UK.
