Alistair,

I have EXACTLY this problem with my own car at the moment. Next time she
refuses to start, see if the blower motor works on speed 3 and 4 - no
kidding, if it's the same as mine, it won't work. The reason is the
relays for speed 3 and 4 and the start inhibit relay (which BTW needs to
be modded - see starter relay modification for early cars on
ww.dmcnews.com) share a ground - if that ground goes dodgy, the whole
line of relays stop working
