Harold is correct in what he is saying. I'll just add that that the top
terminal is common and the black wire should go there (ground ) and the
other wire on the ( original switch ) goes to the other terminal which is
at the bottom and normally open.
On our new replacement switches the ( NO ) is in the middle and that is
where I put the terminal. Just be sure that black is top and other wire
below that.
Also, make sure that the micro switch isn't being used for the idle speed
rest.

Are you connecting the wires between the testing phases the same as
when you remount the switch on the car? On some switches there are
three blade-connections - normally open and normally closed - one is
a common. There are three possible results on the DeLorean depending
on how you plug in the wires - correct function, no function or
backwards function.
A normally open condition is what you want. When you depress the
switch you want continuity - switch open - no continuity.
