Sean, before just replacing everything as has been suggested, try this -
remove the screws from the fuel distributer, carefully lift it up, and spray
some WD-40 or similar solvent on the plunger in the middle of the underside.
I recently got a customer's car going after several years of sitting, and it
was running super rich like you describe. After conferring with Stephen in
Houston, I tried that and it did the trick. Of course you should also
replace the fuel filter, and it sounds like the tank etc. has been cleaned
out. Under no circumstances should the average owner disassemble the fuel
distributer. That is asking for trouble.
