If you name any car, you'll have named something faster! As for
economy, that's a different story. The Insight is a 2-seater.
According to wikki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Insight), it
has a 1 liter engine. The engine on my Honda motorcycle is 50%
bigger!

We have a Civic hybrid. It works fine (not 70mpg fine, but good
enough). I don't know what your objection is to them, they simply
reduce the size of the IC engine needed to power them, providing the
extrea boost in the form of the electric assist motor when needed.
It works better for most circumstances than the conventional
alternative, which is to have a bigger IC engine, say, like a 2.85
liter V-6 that provides the power needed for acceleration, but is
much bigger than really needed to maintain speed.
