Re: [DMCForum] RE: [DML] 50 Worst Cars-What Moron Wrote This?

Mike,

You are right. I do have a lot more information. The best BLDC
motors are rated at about 10 HP and they are designed for independent 4
wheel drive system. 40 HP will give good performance, but the
controlling electronics are too complex for a DYI electric car. It
requires a complete drive train design and fabrication.

During the summer, Ryan and myself did some major research on
components for building electric cars. The database includes motors,
batteries, controllers, etc. It includes sources, prices, power
ratings, size of components, and so on.

We gave a copy of the database to Dave Delman to help him on his
electric D project.

Ryan put in a set of scripts that match motors, controllers and battery
size for different cars, including the D, Metropolitan, 69 Camaro, VW
bus, etc. (possible donor cars.)

We presented this database to the Fox Valley Electric Vehicle
Association in July.

We are going to make a presentation to the LVEVA in October.

We are also producing video on the Electric AMC Pacers of the late 70s.
It should be on You Tube and the Pacer page in the next week or so.

BTW, DOE built a prototype High HP Bushless DC motor for electric
vehicles in the early 1990s. They got the patent and then nothing
happened.

We will build an electric D some day, but right now, we need to get the
2nd generation full size windows and the digital dash done for DCS 08.

If I ever win one of those $300 million dollar lotteries. I will be
building electric cars.

Bob
