RE: [DMCForum] Registration

Hi All,

I just wanted to shed some light on the not-being-allowed-to-register
scene that I mentioned a couple of days ago. Turns out that what my
wife saw was someone who showed up 10 minutes before dinner, who had not
registered for any events at the show, and who just expected to simply
pay and be seated for an event he knew was registration required. Kind
of amazing, considering that folks had around 6 months to register in
advance.

Glad to hear that it wasn't just someone being turned away because they
were stuck in traffic!

-Dave

True...it took us at least 15-20 minutes to put everything away, shut
down computers, etc... Even so I left the dinner table twice to
assist people who got stuck in traffic.
So there is no way that on Thursday anyone got turned away at 5:50
pm. All of the registration people were still sitting while there
were hundreds of people grabbing their food.
The more feedback we have on registration the better. I am a firm
believer that those who went online and registered ahead of time had
no problem getting their badges, free t-shirts and goodie bags. There
were a few who pre registered and I didn't have the record of, but we
quickly printed their badges and went on with registration. At times
there were lines, but I printed 511 badges early that week and well
over 300 of those people were expected to be there on Thursday, so
there will be lines and we rushed to help everyone as quickly as
possible. There were a few people who wanted to register after we
closed registration, but they weren't going to do dinner on Thursday,
so we asked them to register the next morning, but as far as I know
everyone who wanted to have dinner on Thursday talked to us and had
no problems, we even had people eat dinner and pay us later! It is
also important to know that Ken has to guess how many people that
will be fed, so if everyone registers early, there is no running out
of food or late registration issues. Those that registered early and
told ken they couldn't make it, I canceled the registration and Ken
refunded their money, so like the hotel, there is no reason not to
register in advance.
I have a number of funny stories, but I won't mention in public
because I don't want to hurt one person or another who asked "stupid
questions". You all know we are volunteers and do it for the
community but handling 500+ registrations is not an easy job, given
the number, I think it ran smoothly although there is room for
improvement, thanks to the awesome group that was working together.

Anyway, Dave... thanks for giving us the heads up...

refused unless they hadn't paid in advance and the dinner was sold
out. I don't think we had that problem Thursday, but Saturday I know
we sold the dinner out and had to turn a few people away. Maybe
that's what you heard about?
