Re: [DMCForum] OT: Weird Al

As time goes on, I like Al's parodies less and less and his original
songs more and more.  Sure, some of the lyrics in A Complicated Song are
really clever, but I find so much more in his originals and style
parodies.  I own all of his albums on CD (and two on vinyl) and here's
my short list of favorites in no particular order:

Why Does This Always Happen To Me
Those Were The Good Old Days
Albuquerque
Hardware Store
Melanie
Dog Eat Dog
Generic Blues
Happy Birthday
The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
You Make Me
The Weird Al Show Theme

On Poodle Hat, I thought Trash Day and Couch Potato were just awful to
listen to after the second time, Bob was genuinely clever, Genius In
France, Wanna B Ur Lovr and Party At The Leper Colony were tolerable,
but the high spots were high enough to make me love this album.

Everyone knows Al as a parodyist, but most non-hardcore fans don't
realize that he's is a very gifted writer, vocalist and all-around
musician.  I've seen him live twice within the last 8 years and both
time he was amazingly impressive to watch.

Regards,
Jon Heese
