You are right; someone is going to get it either way.  The retailer
shouldn't be so lazy as to just add it to everything in the store so you are
paying for a fee you weren't made aware of.  Another way to look at is the
retailer is screwing everyone.

Some people have also argued that passing business costs along to customers
is just doing business.  Sprint PCS tried that and got sued.  There is a
cost of doing business that the business has to accept.

Besides, all I have to carry is a card or two and not deal with paper money
and coins, which do nothing but piss me off and get collected in a jar. :)
