[DMCForum] Re: Eagle Premier PRV (Joe O'Brien)

Be careful not to confuse the PRV with true Volvo designs such as the
B18 and B30, which are indeed indestructible. The PRV is a perfectly
suitable engine to be certain, but Volvo's reputation wasn't built on
it. When people think of Volvo reliability, they most like are
thinking about the proprietary inline power plants.

I fully endorse picking up inexpensive good condition engines as
spares. The PRV currently in my DeLo was purchased under just such
auspices ("too good of a deal to pass up", "I'll find a use for it
some day", etc). Sure enough -- when my Renault block developed a
massive oil leak in the upper galley, two weeks before Pigeon Forge, I
had a spare already to replace it (with some minor engineering for the
carburetion -- that's all that delayed the transplant even two weeks).
For all intents & purposes, in the long run, the car was never really
out out service.
