Yeah, you are probably right the goop is not a good idea and akin to 
snake oil.

An eagle engine would be interesting and would physically fit but 
hooking the existing FI (LH Jettronic and ignition) might be 
difficult if at all possible.

I'm either going to have to do the head or bid farewell to the old 
beast. 

It just runs soooo good...
