This is weird... Why can't you get the tranny in there at 15 inches?  I had
my tranny out for a clutch replacement and all we used were those ramps on
the back end.  We simply backed the car up on the stands and chucked the
front wheels.  My buddy crawled down underneath and did all the removing of
the tranny, then we both climbed under for the re-install.  I am 6'5" and
about 350 lbs and was able to help quite a bit. 

Am I missing something here?
