[DMCForum] Re: Brian's Inline 6 (ATTN: Dave Stragand)

(Is taking me absolutely forever to wade through all the consumer
unhappiness in this thread. And people have the audacity to question
my choice of vintage transportation...)

The engine in your current Wrangler is essentially the same block in
Juley's Gremlin -- an all AMC design that is one of the greatest
engines ever. Your head is fuel injected of course (swappable for a
carbureted version if necessary), but everything south is the same.
Even if you DON'T perform basic maintenance it will outlive the car.
Loads of torque (258/4.2 liter is 210 ft lbs I believe) -- at 1,800
RPM! Is one of the lowest rev'ing small blocks I've ever encountered.
Very easy access, at least in the earlier renditions.

You made a good choice.

BTW: AMC coupled Chrysler transmissions (automatic) that engine for 30
years BEFORE the sale (1987). It's a VERY proven drivetrain.

Chrysler did not keep the excellent AMC V8 (they only made one -- 304
to 401 are the same engine with different bores). Bad business decision.
