Sorry to hear that, but that does not mean that having ester and mineral oil
together caused the problem.  I had an all R12 system lose a compressor.
Compressors die; it's all part of the circle of life.  =)

Seriously though -- all of the A/C authorities now say it's safe to mix
ester with mineral oil residue.  Mineral and PAG however, will cause the
'black death' -- a tarry sludge that kills everything.

A few years back, a mechanic converted my 1990 Taurus
to R134 without my knowlege or approval.  2 Yrs later
my compressor died.  The entire system needed to be
flushed out, and many expensive parts replaced.
