Engine coolant isn't the problem. Transmission fluid is. If it
overheats, loses all its hydraulic properties. You'll then eat up the
clutch discs.

Note that transmission fluid does not reconstitute itself either (is
not like boiling the antifreeze).

Most automatics cool their fluid in the radiator (separate plumbing,
but same housing). Unfortunately the A/C condensor is located in front
of the radiator. High side is HOT. Since your transmission fluid is
going to be under stress anyway, no sense in subjecting it to hot
freon too.

If you've got a towing package you may have an external cooler
somewhere else.
