I may be too late here on you reverse problem, but let me tell you about
mine. I noticed I was having a terrible time finding reverse, so I took
the
plate loose to see down the shift handle. The little bar that forces the
shifter to follow the shift pattern had broken off. So, I had no idea how
high to lift the shifter to get into reverse.

I stuck a small rod in there and it corrected the problem.
