[DML] A message to prospective DeLorean owners

Longtime readers (and especially people who already own DeLorean cars) know
my history and story as it relates to the DeLorean hobby. For those who
don't, over the years I've owned two DeLorean cars (10570 and 6776), founded
the DML in 1995, started the DeLorean Owners Directory and DeLorean
Production Chronology and since 1999 have worked for DMC (Texas).

Over the course of my "DeLorean story" I've gotten to meet and interact with
hundreds, if not thousands, of DeLorean owners and enthusiasts. In my time
here at DMC (Texas), I've bought and sold easily a couple hundred DeLorean
cars - I even sold one in 2009 to a woman who is now my fiancée.

In 2004, I began to become acutely aware of just how little centralized
information regarding "what to look for and what to look out for" when
considering a DeLorean for purchase was available. The DML was great for
providing technical support once you bought a car, but for many buyers who
bought more of a project than they may have realized, this was too little,
too late. In my mind, too many buyers were paying too much for cars that
were being sold by sellers who thought their cars were worth more than they
actually were. This resulted in situations where new owners were getting
"turned off" on the DeLorean marque because the car they bought wasn't as
good as it was sold to them as being.

Over the past eight years on and off I put my notes, ideas and knowledge
about what I consider important when buying a DeLorean car onto paper. As I
did this, I added more and more details and then added photographs to help
illustrate the text. In June of this year, just before DCS, I completed what
I call "The Illustrated Buyer's Guide to DeLorean Automobiles".

This book grew to over 31,000 words and 220+ color photos and illustrations
over 122 pages. The book is broken down into nine (9) major sections - the
first covers history and basic DeLorean information that you'll want to know
when looking for a DeLorean to buy. The next seven (7) sections are the
"meat" of the book and cover the main areas of the car - Exterior, Interior,
Luggage Compartment, Engine Compartment, Frame/Body/Roof, and Vehicle
Systems (i.e. Engine, Transmission, Brakes, Steering, Suspension,
Electrical, Fuel System, HVAC, Doors). Richly illustrated, this part of the
book is the one that you'll refer to the most - and most likely learn the
most from - while you're evaluating different cars to purchase. Finally, the
last section of the book discusses Common Problems and Cures, Dealer
Options, Factory Specials, Company Cars, Performance Modifications, other
suggested reading materials and more.

A sampling of pages in the book can be downloaded from the website -
www.deloreanguide.com - and links to order the book from Amazon, eBay,
Barnes & Noble and the DMC online store can also be found there.
Additionally, DMC Midwest (815-459-6439) and DMC Florida (239-495-8550) are
also stocking the book, for those who would like to order from them
directly.

Good luck in your search!

James
