[DML] Re: British Motoring versus American Motoring

The root problem is just like a language barrier -- motoring in Europe is worlds removed from motoring in the United States. That was one of DeLorean Motoring Company's biggest problems -- they built a European sports car, which never would have sold in significant volume over here. Even the geriatric, yet domestic tuned, Corvette still managed more than 40,000 sales in 1981.

Given the choice, Americans are going to buy what Americans want and need, not what citizens of any other country want and need (and vice versa -- I would have been very unhappy driving an F-150 around Great Britain. To be brutally honest my Focus was too big for one person).

I find that I often come upon curves on the Autobahn in Germany in the "speed free zones" that require me to slow down. You'd think 140mph wouldn't be too fast for those sections of road but it is.

I've only driven in the UK twice in the last 3 years, once in the '10 Clubman and once in my '85 Mini, but I didn't find it too bad...then again I was only going from Ramsgate/Dover to London and a little further. Germany has a bit of this as well...mostly roads that are 2-way, but only wide enough for 1 1/2 cars!
