RE: [DML] Re: Oil Filters, again!

Hi John,

I am not a technician so what I know about oil filters
has been derived from more technically people and
written information.

An important item is that oil filters should have anti
drain back, so when starting cold there will be oil in
the engine more quickly.

A larger filter usually may filter better as it contains
a larger filtering body.

A larger filter also has a larger surface for heath
exchange, so heath buildup is not going that high as in
a smaller size filter.

The Purflux filter as mentioned suitable for use in a De
Lorean car is the same as for a Renault R25 V6 injection
(same engine as De Lorean).

It also is used in Volvo and Renault Alpine.

Size is height in mm: 89, diameter in mm is 76.

Type is LS592A, Gencod is 328606193987.

The FRAM PH2870A is among others used in German cars,
like VW Golf.

The model name is Extra Guard (not on the VW type as
this is an OEM filter).

Size is height in mm: 99,7, diameter in mm is 66,7.

Though a little longer in height, it is somewhat smaller
in diameter.

FRAM seems to be the only manufacturer I found up to now
that has a dropdown search list that also contains our
De Lorean car.

At the Purflux site (http://www.filtrauto.com/) you only
can find Renault/Volvo cars.

Both filters comply to the anti drain back, which is the
post important factor in my opinion.

Considering that there are more mopar manufacturers and
the fact that each type of use may profit from a
specific make and model it may well be that there are
more oil filters that will suit the De Lorean and may
fulfill the demands of the driving style of it's owner.

You may want to visit
http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html for
an independant review on filtering.

Regards,

Welmoed.

Please tell me what the advantages are. I have yet to
know. Nobody knows
except what DMCH has told them.
John

Hi all,

Being at the other side of the big dip (Netherlands)
this discussion
is also of interest.
However I am using a VW Golf filter that has the same
advantages as
the Purflux, although it's longer. Nevertheless it does
not interfere
with the oil sender. And because of its length it's
easier to remove.
As there also are a lot of VW's in the US this filter
may be an
affordable replacement.

Welmoed.
