I remember looking for vacuum leaks and finding a disintegrating
vacuum cap on an extra port of the charcoal canister.  I believe this
port was for a carburetor in other systems.  It also turned out to be
my biggest vacuum leak.  I'm not sure if that's what you're describing
though...  this was on the canister itself.
