RE: [DML] Emissions in CA

here is what the ref will be looking for:
1.) the engine must be the same year or newer than the one already in the
car.

2.) you must retain all the emissions devices from the donor engine

3.) you cannot down-grade technology (you gotta stick with fuel injection)

4.) you must retain the cat

5.) you must pass tailpipe for the year of the donor vehicle

I have talked to a few referees and theses are things that they mentioned.
also, never call it an engine swap, it is an "engine change". I would
recommend picking a later model engine that has electronic fuel injection
cause it will have less drive belt items. an engine from about 1990 to 1995
is a good selection because its not OBDII and has less restrictions. for
more detailed questions feel free to ask (on list or off list). Also, this
list can be flexible with the exception of rule #4.

To you guys who live in CA...I'm in NY right now and by doing an
engine swap I wouldn't have any problems with inspecting. The problem
is-I'm going to be living in Sacramento next August..So if I have a
swapped engine with no emissions, I would have to get a cat converter
if to pass right? If its going to be a problem with a swapped engine
in CA, then I'm not even going to bother with swapping. Yet another
DeLorean to be in CA eventually -Dani B. #5003
