I have penned a few updates to the article but haven't seen them posted 
yet. I've done one car that was much worse than my own, but it had been 
"bodged" in the past. All the others have only been mildly scary! I too 
have got the proper stud extractors though I only use them as a last 
resort, and I no longer use the freezer spray - just well placed tapping 
with a hammer while applying torque.

I also make sure to have the manifolds faced when replacing them - the 
orignal castings were all over the place - small wonder it's such a 
common problem.
