Although I agree with George and others that almost any Delorean
can be refurbished, I do not agree with a one or two car limit.
If there ever comes a point when the DMCNews cars for sale section
is empty and I cannot find a Delorean for sale on the internet or
in a local ad paper, I will gladly put my Deloreans for sale and
keep only one or two.  However, there will always be cars for sale
so I just don't buy the "spread the wealth" concept.  I believe
Deloreans are better off in the hands of enthusiasts that someone
who just wants to add a unique car to a collection.  By the time my
collection goes to my nephews, they will only have one or two each.

And for those of us who have refurbished Deloreans, I would rather
have one or two running cars AND have one or two project cars that
are being refurbished, so using the "spread the wealth" idea, there
would be a few less owners on this list if it were not for my efforts
to refurbish Deloreans since I purchased my first used DMC in 1985.
After only refurbishing Deloreans, I decided to do things different.

People need to keep things in perspective.  There is no set of RULES
required for Delorean ownership or Delorean enthusiasm.  One event
should not cause someone to "loose respect" for people like Don Steger
or myself.  Rest assured, Don will not trash your car if you bring it
to his shop and I will not try to make a fleet of Hover Deloreans or
Delorean 4x4s by buying up all the inexpensive Deloreans out there.

As for "doing something positive for the Delorean community", this has
always been my intention, although not all agree with my methods.
Maybe the more conservative or purists in the community will approve
of one of my next ventures, to debut in the next GullWing Magazine.
This is an idea that has been in the works for several years and is
about to be begin with the help of others in the Delorean community.

I like to hear about ideas to do something positive for the Delorean
community, but most of it remains as just talk.  If you talk the talk
you should walk the walk.  Not all my efforts have been 100% positive
but at least give them a try and keep trying more and more things.

What do you think would have happened if the MG Delorean Hovercraft
had been a successful build?  Would your opinion have been different?

I seem to recall this has been done.  Transmission swaps are never easy
but IIRC this is easier than most as the size and shape is very similar. 
The G50 is solid, but the G50/50 (out of the 911 turbo) is indestructible
(400+ hp).  Plenty of gear ratios available for either.

FWIW, I always say "shorter" and "taller" gears to prevent the confusion
between mathematics-lower and automotive-lower ratios.

_I_ don't but my PRV guy does. Darren has his own concours Renault 30
and has been active in the ROC for many years. I asked him abot this
some time ago and he bascially said "of course they're all still
available". He also pointed me to where you can buy a limited slip
differential for our boxes.

We're working on him to get him to come to Pigeon Forge BTW

I don't have a D yet, but I did some research. I have Allstate. To
insure a Delorean with comparable full coverage ($500 deductable) to
my 98 VW Jetta it would add about $60 a month to my premium. That is,
of course, with the multiple policy discount and whatnot. I'm 27 with
no accidents (but one speeding ticket still on my record).

 This may be pretty common knowledge among most of us so at the risk of
insulting everyone's intelligence I'll give an illustration of why higher
numbers are used for lower gears and lower numbers for higher gears. When
riding a bicycle that has more than one speed, lower gears require more
pedal revolutions per one revolution of the rear wheel. Higher gears require
less pedaling. With a final drive of 3.44:1, like the DeLorean's, it takes
3.44 revolutions of the pinion shaft to turn the rear wheels one revolution.
Now look at an off road 4x4 with 4.11:1 gears. It takes 4.11 revolutions of
the pinion shaft to turn the wheel one revolution. Just as with shifting the
bike down, it takes more input revs to turn the final drive output but it's
easier. Once your rolling you can shift up to lower engine RPM's and
maintain momentum. The DeLorean's 5th gear is actually less than 1:1, it
takes only  0.82 pinion turns to turn the final output ring gear once.
That's why it's called overdriven or overdrive. That's also why the stock
DeLorean will actually have a better top end in 4th gear than 5th. As the
engine revs and passes it's peak power range it becomes harder to turn the
rear wheels when the ratio is higher as in the DeLorean's case of less than
one to one.

I just wanted to pass on the good news that I'm back in the DeLorean ownership saddle. I took posession of Bob Thomason's beautiful VIN 5252 this afternoon. It's certainly been a stressful month since my accident, but it's all ending well. As for my old VIN 10115, it's currently slated to go to a fellow list member. If he changes his mind, I will advertise the car to the group again.

At the the fall tour, I decided to pull off my headliners and take a peek at
whatever might be hiding back there.  I was expecting to find my VIN number
and a key code.  I found a couple of weird things I didn't expect.

My VIN is 17094, manufactured Aug 82.

On the left door, I saw "V12159" along with a key code, as well as the
initials "RJC" a date of "9.30" and the number "17".  This didn't confuse me
too much -- it sounds like it must have been replaced at some point... but I
would be interested in hearing if anyone out there knows what happened to
12159.

On the right door, I saw "V12094" and a different key code, and a date of
"8.25" but there were also some other interesting things, a signature from
"Metal Mikey Z.", and another date "25.3.82 OK RB + KS"  -- this was kind of
cool... but what really makes me scratch my head is the VIN 12094, which is
too similar to my actual VIN 17094 to be a coincidence.  Was there maybe a
batch of VINs in the 12xxx series that was reassigned to 17xxx for sale in
Canada (mine's a Canadian model)?  Can someone else with a 17xxx VIN peek at
their doors and see if they see something similar?  Maybe my left door
actually came from VIN 17259?  If you think maybe I just misread the
writing, take a look for yourself:

Certainly not urgent, but if anyone has any info that can shed some light on

adjusted the mixture how I thought I did. I am going to do what Andy
