It's alternator time for me. I knew that I was on
borrowed time with the Ducellier, and now that summer
is here and I am ready to drive the car I want it
ready, too.
Right off the bat, I am not interested in anything not
offered by one othe regular DeLorean vendors.
I am told that DMCH will continue to offer the rebuilt
Motorolas if supplied with a "good" core. Obviously
that counts me out with my Ducellier. Warren did tell
me that they have a new 105 amp alternator available
OUTRIGHT for $295.
Specialty (or is it SpecialT?) around Dallas has his
alternator, too, but I have heard about a lot of
failures with them. Warranty or no, if it dies and I
am in the middle of nowhere, the passenger (read:
wife) won't be real understanding.
Grady has a 105amp for $360, but no indication of
warranty and didn't find any mention of user
experiences here.
Any firsthand thoughts here people willing to post
publicly for posterity?

In a static situation in a pressurized system the pressure is equal in
all parts of the system. Under flow conditions restrictions start to
have importance. For the purposes of the fuel injection system in the
Delorean you can assume that unless you have a kink in a hose or a
plugged valve that the pressure you read is the pressure in that part
of the fuel system. The size of the hose has no effect on the fuel
pressure once the system has filled and pressurized. The fuel pump has
EVERYTHING to do with the pressure in the system as well as the
pressure regulating valves. You are correct that you need a certain
minimum pressure before you get the injectors to open and start
spraying. As long as fuel is getting to the injectors there is only 1
reason they won't spray, not enough presssure. There can be 2 causes
for not enough pressure, the pump can't make enough pressure and a
pressure valve is letting the pressure out, back to the fuel tank.
Messing with the mixture screw will not get the injectors to open at a
lower pressure and you will just loose that critical adjustment.
Start in the gas tank and make sure the fuel pump isn't sucking in
any air and the pick-up hose isn't kinked. The fuel system is
hydraulic, not pnuematic so if there is air getting in it won't work.

I have never seen this version of DeLorean sport stripe before. Was
this ever offered or is it a custom creation? The DMC logo looks a little
distorted so maybe someone made it.

actually lost the connection at the mounting post due to some hidden

CPR is a control pressure regulator, also called the warm-up regulator
- it works to control the amount of fuel injected dependant on the
temperature of the engine, and the amount of vacuum. Its commonly
available from D vendors.
Not meaning to be critical, but if you truly are "clueless about these
cars" then this probably isn't the car for you... it also has front
frame extension damage, possibly caused by the failure to install the
roll-bar mount safety recall, which is absent in the photos I've received.

I am the owner of this poor old ambitious project. I have fielded
over 200 emails on the car. The most common question being...how
could you let this car get that way? My answer is you will have to
ask the fool that let that happen. I love these cars and this being
one of three I bought for resale is a sad example of the kind of car
I pride myself in owning. Thanks to all of the memebers that have
been a huge help to me, Walt, Greg, Erik and others. I sincerely hope
someone out there wants to restore this car. It does have a clear
clean title and does need a world of help. Don't kill the messanger,
it jsut came with the package of DMC's I bought, and it's time to
move on.

Hello all,
Soon after buying the car I noticed that the top half
of the origional fusebox (top half) had melted (around
the area of fuse #10. The first owner had moved the
top 9 (123,789,13 14 15) to a new fuse bar. The work
was good and clean but undocumented.
It didnt take much brainpower to deduct which
fuse went where, before long I was down to 2
undocumented. here is where I need help
Fuses 1,7,and 13 (all others have been verified)
7:
I think I got seven right, or the car would be dead
(fuel pump and all) The wire diagram shows 20A going
from a Brown wire to Brown wire. This is the only
such B2B in the fusebox im pretty confident i got this
one.
1:
Book shows a color code of white to green, once
again, this matches the only white to green, and with
the fuse removed the engine doesnt start. Im about
95% confident on this one.
13:
This is the problem. I have an Automatic and I know
13 is for the trani. Tech guide provides no color
code for 13. There are 2 slots left on the fuse rack
Green<-------->Blue white
Brown<-------->Green Purple
I have 10amp fuses in both of them now and the car
runs fine. It seems I have one more fuse than
delorean came with. Anybody have an idea on this
mystery cables and which one is the one for Auto trani
fuse.
P.S. Im noticing a little heat damage on the in wire
for Fuse 14#(low beam) looks like it wasnt made for
this ammount of curent, anyone got a fix for that.

I am not sure how the original sidestripes were made but it seems to be an
INVERSE of the other one. As if the stripes were stamped out of a sheet of
striping material and the inverse non-strip parts were used as to do a second
car with the same stripe set. Or maybe someone made an inverse from an
original?? I dunno just my $.02

yes, I know i shouldn't buy a car like this without having some
knowledge. But i figure between my dad (who restored a 1972 Chevelle
Malibu) and this list, I can get theinfo i need to fix it. Yes it
will be time-consuming, yes it will be expensive. I am prepared to
put in the time and money to get this car back to at least okay
conditiona nd maybe a full restore a couple years down the line.

Pretty much all I can do is verify continuity, which is good on both
cables. I don't have a piece of test equipment I could use to test any
significant current. I can test current with the car off, and it seems
perfectly reasonable (about 30 mA).
Besides cleaning up all the grounds, I've cleaned all the major positive
connections (battery, alternator, starter) and verified good continuity
(but again, can't test major current flow).

That definatly was never offered by the factory or dealers. I can't
say I love the design, but it's a nice take off the original wide
stripes. Well done too. Nice idea. It's an inverse of what
the 'stock' wide accent stripes looked like.

Not so fast. There is no spring pocket. Did you actually try to fit
one up or is this just based on looking at pictures? I also doubt

I went through 3 Delco alternators and now I am back on old reliable -
the Motorola. I am convinced that the single wire hookup that the
Delco mods use is the problem because of the digital voltage
regulator that has to be used. It cannot tolerate the swings in
voltage without another voltage sensor wire similar to the setup that
is used in the midstates modification on their web site. I believe if
I use that setup on my PJ Grady Delco it may last. I just got tired
of messing with it. SpecialT does rebuild the Motorola's and so does
DMCH. After all the work so far I am inclined to stay with the
Motorola. The only reason I may put on the Delco is because I have it
and it is a sunk cost at this point.

It would seem I have run into a minor position here in the good old
state of Missouri. I want to be able to get a loan on a DeLorean
that just happens to be sitting in a suitable location. There is
only one problem.
What I want to know, is why it is that I can get financing on a
newer vehicle and yet it seems no one here can get loans on one of
these cars. It would seem that the bank is rather reluctant to help
in this situation. I wonder how many of you out there have run into
this kind of situation. What did you have to do to get around to it?

Well a new car has value and the loaner holds the title insuring their cut.
A 20+ year old car is just that, 20 years old. And the value is not readily
figured out considering differing conditions of cars. I am not sure why the
older cars get overlooked, but I feel it has to do with the risk factor for
the lending company going back to the value. What I mean is there are
$5,000 D's and $30,000 D's. The banks just don't want to deal with it.
Not too sure, but that's all I can come up with after 8 hours of mowing here
at home today. Man am I bushed.
