I'm a D purist and BTTF fan, (and a young 52 year old!) I have several
"stock" cars and in the process of making my own full time, time machine. I
won't be drilling any holes in the car and all changes will be reversible.
It has been done several times in the USA.
The costs could be as much or as little as you want. Depending how much
work you put in yourself.
I am currently having all the stainless steel trim bits made. My local
university made all the electronics in exchange for borrowing and displaying
my car at their Science fair.
I think the only bit you can buy "off the shelf" is the "out of time" number
plate from Universal studios, and I don't think it was ever actually fitted
on one of the cars
My advice would be to buy your car first before worrying too much about the
BTTF conversion.

After resetting the inertia switch (if it is good) the car should
start right up. If it won't then you have a problem in your fuel
system possibly the fuel accumulater as now you are experiencing the
"hot start" problem. Some owners use the inertia switch as a "kill"
switch to prevent the car from being stolen and don't have the problem
of hard starting. If your switch is still on the Lambda counter move
it so you don't kick it and make sure it has a white spot on it or it
WILL let you down.

Well James, I can't beat you for the youngest DeLorean owner/driver, but
will try for the oldest. Lets see, I am 80 years 8 months. I bought my D 5
years ago with 3K miles on it and now it has 8K (Oct 81 build date) and
drive it almost daily. I like to brag I can still do a 9 minute mile
(running) and do a 180 in a car (NOT the D tho). A couple years ago, I was
told of one person older than me who is an owner, but my informant said he
did not drive his car any more. We have reservations at the "Heart Break
Hotel" in Memphis in June, but will NOT be in the D, sorry to say. Too far
from Walla Walla, WA!!!

Hi James,
You're right... many might find that blasphemous! I, however, do not. I myself have been looking for such a conversion since I stumbled across a website a few years back. Someone *had* indeed built a kit that consisted of a new rear louvre and a panel that sat behind the driver with the fluxy bits. I've never again found the site! Since it was all "bolt on" the car was not harmed or altered in anyway... damn I'd like to find that site! I even remember the pricing! Around $1400!
Due to copyright etc I doubt it'll ever surface again....

I have finally got around to looking into why my drivers side window does not go up and down, however I can hear the motor turning.
After removing the whole mechanism the 'Worm drive' that turns to move the window, is Knackered. i.e. down around the motor gears it is actually broken with two to three inches missing. The motor however is in fine running order.
Does any one out the have an old one with a burnt out motor they may be looking rid of that I could acquire? Or can I just purchase the 'Worm Drive' and gears somewhere????

Happy New Year All!
I've been a prop builder in theatre and film for years and have always wanted my very own time machine. Well, this past July, my dream came true and I purchased Vin#10694!
After gathering images and models, I've begun construction, and I must say it has been an incredible experience so far!
If anyone desires a particular part (ie: time circuits, overhead switch console, time circuit drum switch, etc.), let's talk. I might consider making a few duplicate parts as I go along.

event and would like to get a handle on what it takes to live with, or be
married to, these wonderful cars. This list exists independently of the
current business known as the DeLorean Motor Company, or any other groups,
email lists, or web sites dealing with DeLorean automobiles other than
www.dmcnews.com.
2.0 RESTRICTIONS - This is an unrestricted subscription list. Anyone may
join at any time without approval. All postings are subject to approval by
the active member of the moderating team. Please note that, in order to
reduce unsolicited spam, only authorized subscribers can post messages;
anonymous postings don't get past the list processor. Topics should deal
with anything concerning owning, fixing, driving, restoring, detailing, or
anything else tangential with what it takes to live with these unique and
affordable automobiles. Also welcome are discussion of the DeLorean Motor
Company (the original manufacturer) and John Z. DeLorean himself. Personal

spare parts or knowledge that they are willing to swap or sell to other
members at reasonable cost to help each other out. More detailed vendor

postings seeking a "cheap" DeLorean, as the average list-member tends to
find this offensive. Be sure to include your email ID in the form of
"joe(AT)isp.com" because Yahoo Groups strips the email ID out of addresses

4.0 NETIQUETTE - Please note that you should use caution when quoting
personal email in your reply, unless you have the acquiescence of all
parties to the communications. Please respect the rights of your fellow
list-members and help maintain some modicum of privacy for private email as
well as list decorum. The list is setup to strip ALL attachments, to prevent
virus forwarding, dirty pictures, email pyramid schemes and the like from
cluttering up the list. File size is restricted so as to inhibit quoting
entire digests. If you have images or other data that you would like the
members to see, please post the info the YahooGroups.com site, and provide a
URL to the users versus attaching that file to a message. When replying to
a message, let's get back into the (seemingly) long-lost netizen habit of
snipping unneeded or non-germane text from the body of the reply.
Especially, please be painfully aware of replying to the list if you are in
DIGEST mode, since a one or two-line retort in the middle of a digest, if

upload images to on the yahoo server site; compressed JPEG is the best to

available. We would caution against uploading any scans of copyrighted
material to either of these sites. This is not the place to debate whether
or not the information is for personal use, for now, let's accept the fact
that copyright owners have the right to tell us what to do with their
intellectual property. The fact is, in this litigious society, we don't
have the resources to fight swarms of lawyers descending on us because a
site we administer has copyrighted material on it. We need the bucks to
keep our cars running...:)

Is there anyone that knows how to open the lid for luggage compartment, if the cable comes disconnected while closed? I asked the DOA and they gave me instructions to go in through the brake fluid reservoir, but I was wondering if there is an easier way to pop the lid.

I don't like having to do this to you but if you can get your hands on
it, it does show you how to do it. I am refering to Delorean World
Vol 11 #2 the Tech Quest article by John Truscott. Even with the
picture it is not easy. I had to have mine done by another member of
our club who was able to do it from memory. it is not done in any
"normal" manner and is certainly not intuitavly obvious. If any
members have it it would be good to put in the vault as long as the
D.O.A. and John Truscott don't mind. A better picture would be nice.

I got everyone beat, I was born July 13 of 1983, I got my first delorean
when I was fifteen, Although I did not technically own it at the time, I was
the only one in my family that drove it at all. My second delorean came in
december of last year, and when the registration came due this past december
I got my second delorean officially put in my name.
Come to the East TN Delorean Owners meeting the second weekend in March and
meet The Youngest Delorean Owner, I will sign autographs if you want!

I had purchased my first DeLorean when I was 16 back in 1983. I had been
working and saving up the money for two years to buy it. It had 18 miles on
it and was on the showroom floor at an authorized DeLorean dealer called
Spreen Toyota in Atlanta.
When the insurance bill came in I was devastated that I could not keep it for
more than six months. I could afford the car, but not the insurance as a 16
year old.
18 Years later I am enjoying a different DeLorean and the insurance is cheap!
BTW, I paid $18,995 for my D in 1983, and $19,000 for my current one. If I
had only kept the original one in good shape, I could've made $5 profit in
only 18 years! That's better than my Enron stock!
