OK, after reading all of the banter about the judging of the concours
competition, I have one really important question. Are any of the judges
willing to take a cash bribe? I have available at my disposal $4.46, in small
unmarked coins. I am especially interested in hearing from the judge from
France, because I hear she may be easy to influence.
If I happen to come in second and get the media to create enough controversy,
do you think I may get awarded a co-first place trophy?
Also, if a 1981 wins, do you think the 1983 contingency will boycott the
closing event and go home?
If I do win, I understand that I am not allowed to enter future concours
competitions. However, there is always the chance to get some very lucrative
endorsement deals, and appear on the Today show, right?
What about security at the event, will everyone get to wait in line for hours
to enjoy a cavity search to make sure this is the safest concours event ever?
And one more question, will the competition be skewed by performance
enhancing substances like octane boosters and slick 50? Is anyone going to
test for these contraband items?
After all, this is not just a hobby, it's a VERY SERIOUS COMPETITION!

There was an article(s) published in a few of the more obscure DeLorean
magazines. I have some back issues of DeLotech that outline the fan fail
module and also i think there are few articles in Delorean World about this.
Anyway, one of these articles explains how to wire up the fans to a switch
and you can turn them on whenever you want. I currently use this setup. The
dummy switch on the far right side has been replaced with a functional
switch. The fans will still operate normally by themselves, but I have the
option of activating them myself.

Does anyone else have this setup or something similar/better? If peole are
interested I will post the diagrams and info on the site.

NO.My DeLorean is also an Automatic Aug '81 Vin
2883.To my knowledge the only problem with the
automatic transmissions is the Computer governer which
has a very high failure rate.The transmission itself
is very durable and strong and provided is serviced
regulary and correctly shouldn't provide you with any
problems.IMHO the auto is fantastic and a delight to
drive.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your response and help.  The compressor has done this since being
charged about two years ago.  It blows cold air but was cycling about every
5 seconds.  I have the switch adjusted so the A/C compressor runs almost
constant with the engine running around 2000 rpm.

You say the engage or "on" time of the compressor should be no less than 7
seconds with the engine RPM at 3000.  Does that mean I can adjust it to be
"on" more than 7 seconds at 3000 rpm?  If so, how much more should I let it
run before turning off again at that rpm or say even around 2000 rpm.

I don't mind buying another switch but was hoping I could just adjust it
myself until I get the car into the shop for other things.  Will I hurt
anything if I let it go like it is for a while.  Next time I'll ask before
assuming the article is correct.

Tyler, I have found that most of the time the lights not coming on are caused
by the door switches, either connections are not good and tight, the wires
are un hooked or the switches are not operating properly. If you want to try
to find the bad spot. Take a clip lead and jumper the wires going to the door
switches on the drivers side then leave that clip lead on and jumper the
wires on the passenger side. If the lights still don't come on , the check
for voltage and loose connections with the bulbs or the grounds. Make sure
the delay relay is plugged in. If all else fails, the delay may be bad.

Farrar,

J. C. Whitney has an inexpensive 3 trumpet air horn kit under $30 and
it puts out 134db in a tone that has a slight european sound to it.
I have a set mounted in D REX, you can see a photo of them on my
projects website, www.entermyworld.com/rich, under St. Pat's parade
section.  Of course you cannot mount them in the same place on a stock
Delorean, but you can mount them near the fan shroud, preferably in a
slightly turned downward position, to help moisture drain out.
I would also recommend mount a seperate horn button for the air horns.

I'll see if Tamir can do a short video/audio clip for the website so
you and others can hear what they sound like for yourself.

Hi All

I have had the opportunity to study the fan fail module as I had one in my car when I
bought it. The interesting things about it are as follows:

Although the fans are wired up seperately to the socket, they are connected together
inside the module. The primary reason for the fan fail module going wrong is the
pathetically small solder joints where the pins for each fan are connected to the board.
Combinations of flexing when plugging them in, and the heat generated by the small
connection results in these solder joints going "dry" - ie not proper electrical
connections, merely touching contacts.

I was however heartened to see that the original module did employ proper hall-effect
current sensing to light the fan fail light. It does not light the fan fail light if
something goes wrong with the main power relay supplying the fans.

As I mentioned a week or so ago, I have designed and am in the process of constructing a
DIY fan module for sequential fan engagement, and an additional system for detecting a
failure in the fans. The circuit is so elegangtly simple that anyone who knows how to use
a soldering iron should be able to build one. 75% of the problem with projects like this
is sourcing appropriate components! I have also incorporated "options" into the design
after some comments I received. Watch this space.

In other news, I have also designed a replacement for the lock module - again something
anyone with soldering experience should be able to construct. I will be testing all my
designs and instructions on a friend who knows how to solder, but not electronics as
such.

Wow, that is very humorous, let alone pointless.  This isn't even a
door, just a generic T-panel (or I-panel as they like to call it) with
hinged pieces.  Anyone have a clue what kind of usefull purpose
this could serve?  Think somebody should tell them they have the stut
orientated wrong?  He he, I love my full size gullwings!

Marc and I both know of an original 1983 owner and his exceptional
concourse condition car. The judges didn't convey the confidence in their

    Michael,
      You make a lot of general accusations about the judging of a specific 83 car at a past concours event and about the judges knowledge of that specific VIN numbered car. And in so doing you also make accusations concerning the judging of all the cars at a concours event. So we can try and supply you with the facts concerning the judging of this particular car, and in so doing lend credibility to the judging of all cars entered in the concours, how about stating some actual information and specific facts and not just generalizations and second hand hear say. Where did all your information come from ? Now if you'd like to talk about specific items, I'd be happy to listen.

 
    You also talk about bringing a 83 Concours car to a Concours event. Did you get a new car ? The last I heard you no longer own a Delorean. If you have a car that you think is Concours condition, I'm sure people would love to see it at Memphis.

I enjoyed your comments on the judging a bit more humor is always needed.
Take mine in the same humerous stride

Controversy happens at any judging event
The behind the scenes e-mails on this subject have kept me hopping all
weekend.

1. The $4.46 can be used to help pay bills I need the cash and no reasonable
offers refused.  But it won't buy you points our judges are unbribable with
the fear of death hanging over them if the fall to temptations like you
suggest.
I am thinking of quarentining them to keep them from the bad influences that
abound and to try to avoid the Olympic scandal.
I think maybe have each judge stay at a seperate hotel and not be allowed
near the show or each other until Saturday morning.
On a serious note you are welcome during the daily driver judging to talk to
the judges believe me they enjoy your stories.  We heard some great ones last
time.

I thought maybe John would judge the cars but noone leaves him alone long
enough we would be there all night. Not sure he would want to do
undercarriages though.

2. I hope at least our French judge is cute.

3. We have awarded co prizes but only in the case of ties.  (Too much expense
there we would go broke) 30 first place trophies would double my award costs.

4. I have an 83 and have never won first.
Can I join the boycott
What if I entered at my own show even though I have nothing to do with the
judging and won.
That would really get some people going (fix fix)
I do have a nice car but as you say 83's are slighted against LOL
If I go home because of the boycott the show ends so I wouldn't miss
anything. :-(

5. The Three year ban is being re-considered at my request but I am leaving
that up to DMC Houston.( We discussed that today)

6.  I hope you do get a lucritive network sponsor
but I don't think so.  If so tell him John says hi and Kathryn can model.

The competition is fierce I was thinking about inviting Tanya Harding to hand
out the trophies and if anyone objects she can break their legs.  That should
cut down on the complaint department.

Bottom line is

Come to the show and have a good time.
We will do our best and thats as good as we can do.
I enjoy doing the shows all I want is for all of you to come and enjoy.
