Re: [doc] Re: Garaging your DeLorean

I bought a double garage and got a free house ! :)

Men don't often get enough free space in the house, so make sure you manly dominated parts (i.e. garage!) are not invaded by girlie stuff.
Wahers/ driers are for the kitchen NOT THE GARAGE !

When my lovely Mrs T started putting kitchen/ garden/ whatever-rubbish things in the garage, I started putting spanners in the knife and fork drawer and power tools in the food cupboard :)

I did eventually make my point...........after a telling off and buying a shed :(

  NickT(estosterone).

p.s. Mini fridge with beer in sounds good...........now I know what I'd like for my birthday :)

  Hi Mike,

Thanks for the brilliant advice (especially the document, very handy) :O)

Lots of things I need to consider there, but glad I did check first. I'd hate to get the house, and then find the garage isn't big enough for my dream car!! :oO
I will probably keep the clutter down to a bare minimum, apart from the absolute essentials like bike, shelve space, mini fridge (with plenty of beer! :O)

Not sure if the wife will agree about the right garage coming before the right house though! :O)

Thanks again matey

Best Regards

Hi

Its a bit like asking how long is a piece of string really...:)

Having worked in buildings / services all of my life and garages just
like houses, plots of land and drives etc etc have all been creeping
down in size. I used to think my garage was small for a single one
but then measured it against a site i was working on at the time and
realised just how lucky i was. My advice is that whilst the delorean
at 1900mm width will fit through a standard 2134mm garage door its
the actual unrestricted width and length internally that matters. ie
cupboards and worktops, fridges and dishwashers etc you may have in
there. Also the tiny gap you get at each side with this door means
you only have 117mm clearance from each wing mirror ( yes they can
be folded in but who wants to forget to do that too often :) )

The car doors swing out aproximatley 280mm at the widest point, make
sure you mount any wall cupbards above the highest arc of the swing +
a little more.

Also when you want to work on the car the space along side the car is
important nothing worse than trying to get a wheel off with your back
tight up against the wall.

So get the biggest garage you can then see if you like the house :)

I will sort out all of the crap i have in my garage one day soon....

Kind Regards

the all important Delorean sized garage), and was just wondering
about the standard garage sizing. Am I right in thinking that with
the gull wing doors on the D you don't have to allow as much room as
you would with an ordinary car, simply because the doors go upwards?
Also do I need to consider the length & width of the car, or are most
standard sized garages suitable to fit a DeLorean comfortably?
