There are two reasons for the K series blows head gaskets.  Rover used
plastic locating dowels on the early engines and they bent allowing the head
to move, the other is the thermostat is on the inlet of the engine and it
should be on the outlet.  This design flaw allows thermo shock and the head
expands and contracts causing HGF

Move the stat and replace the dowels and the K series is fine.
