Re: [doc] Pivot Bolt Shocker!!

Alistair

The very last cars to leave the factory were not always the late cars.
Previously speaking to Robert Lamrock, a lot of the cars that had problems
that could not be quickly resolved on the assembly line,  were taken off and
parked in the corner of the factory. These cars could have been there for
some considerable time and in the last days of the factory, these cars were
then brought back on to the line hopefully rectified, finished off and sold.

To confirm this, I have a written letter from the factory, which was amongst
loads of factory papers that Dave Howarth had owned for many years before I
bought my current car DMC 1J. Stating that my car vin 11382 was the second
but last to leave the factory, yet it is a May 1982 vehicle.

Subject: [doc] Pivot Bolt Shocker!!

Hi Folks

Tired and dirty after another day of working on "Pilot25".

I now have a properly tuned engine that hums nicely, a drivers door torsion
bar that is nicely tightened and faulty electrical connector on my fuel pump
that liked to fail every so often (usually on petrol station for-courts)

I also decided to check why my gear selection was so loud and clunky and the
fact that you needed a map to find fifth gear!!  After jacking the car and
having a quick look at the underside of the gearbox, to my dumbfounded shock
I found that I did not have a proper pivot bolt at all!! I did have a bolt,
but this bolt was only placed through the hole and not even held with a
nut!!  It could have fallen out at anytime and left me stranded.......  This
car continues to through up little problems and for a car that was one of
the last six (ie "the best ones we ever made") cars finished of by the
recievers I cant believe some of the mistakes they made.

I have my MOT in 3 weeks so wish me luck!!
