[DML] Re: chrome wheels, Bricklins

So, Kayo, you can't chrome plate aluminum? That's going to come as a
surprise to the people out there who do that for a living. Sometimes I
really have to wonder about the stuff I read on here. Anyway, for what it
is worth, I have had both polished and yes chromed stock wheels on my
DeLoreans, and both are a huge improvement over the stock look. I have
chrome ones on my supercharged car, and prefer them because the upkeep is
zero. You just wash them and they look terrific. If anyone is interested I
can have them chrome plated, including painting between the spokes, for
about $189 each, plus shipping. The wheels must be in mint condition. I
also have a limited number of new wheels that can be chromed, for only $175
more.

As for Bricklins, I had for years wanted to own one just so I could compare
it to the DeLorean (and get pictures of the two, doors up, side-by-side in
my driveway). I finally got my chance - a few years ago I picked up a very
low mileage car for only $4,000. Another DeLorean owner and I were going to
go halves on it, but at the last minute he chickened out. It was a very
early car, ugly Suntan color, with the AMC drivetrain. It still had the
slow hydraulic doors and some significant damage to the top of the door
skins, but otherwise was quite nice. But it was like driving a Javelin. It
also felt like a thrown-together kit car, and it got many more comments than
the DeLorean ever did - only they were all negative. The one I loved was
that it "looked like a Saab eating an eight-track tape". Anyway, it was
probably the worst car I have ever owned, and after a long two months or so
I was able to persuade my formally reluctant "partner" to take it off my
hands. And in keeping with my often-repeated statement of having "never
lost money on a collector car" I sold it to him for exactly what I had
invested in it up til then - sales tax, license, repairs, etc., rounded up
to the next even dollar. That was the best profit I ever made, because it
was GONE.
