Thanks to everyone that made the suggestions. What I wound up doing, after several hours of experimenting and re-trying the compression tool in various placements, was to use the tool with the bolt heads mounted up and the claws at the bottom. This precluded the use of my air torque wrench and made it a longer manual process. There is just enough room on either side of the spring mounting tower to allow a 180 degree separartion and compressing 4 or 5 coils. Made the SECOND one a quick 15 minute job, not counting the time to enlarge the lower shock mount tube to accomodate the stock through-bolt.
Best regards,
Daryl
