You know a moderator's challenge like that can't go unanswered:

Perhaps currently disproportionate interest in normally off topic
subjects such as Bricklins, Kathryn DeLorean, and hopped up throw-away
cars is because northern owners have pulled their DeLoreans out of
service for the season and now have disproportionate time to devote.
